When I was given the opportunity to head a team in China, I grabbed as many books as possible on managing people, learning cultures, leadership ,etc. In one chapter, Stephen talk about gaining trust among the colleagues. I was mindful of this as I observed how most newly appointed managers tend to stick to the management staff during lunch and meeting and "ignore" the lower rank.
I made a conscious effort to bond with them, understand their work challenges and gain trust over a period of time, slowly. It was this relationship that helps me to gather lots of feedback that I would otherwise not be able to detect from a bird's eye view.
Stephen is phenomenal and this book is easy to read and carry along.
